Michaela and Jon

Ashley, Levi, and I photographed Michaela and Jon's wedding April 16th and the Temple for the Performing Arts in downtown Des Moines. The weather was fantastic and our April streak of getting outside photos continued. Going on 4 years now. It was the first time that we'd shot a wedding at the Temple for the Performing Arts, but hopefully not the last. The location was beautiful and made for some great shots during the ceremony and reception.

Ashley only stayed for part of the day so Levi and I shot everything from formals on. Following the ceremony we left for a short time and headed over the capital before heading to the sculpture park which is not far from the ceremony location at all. The things that happened at the sculpture can only be described as awesome. I was in very little control of the situation and that worked out great because the bridal party had some awesome ideas. Including hand stands and twin human pyramids.

We had an amazing time and the wedding was beautiful. Michaela, Jon, family, and friends were all great to work with and really helped turn out the photos that we did. Congratulations to Michaela and Jon!

Emily and Zach

Dan Gable is more important than wedding photos? Apparently in Iowa City that's the case. This past weekend Ashley and I photographed Emily and Zach's Iowa City wedding. It was the first time Ashley and I have shot a wedding in Iowa City, but hopefully not the last. Had it not been bone chilling cold, there are a lot of interesting and fun places to take photos in real close proximity. We first met with Emily and her family at her parent's home for getting ready and candid "day of" photos. The first thing we noticed when we met them was just how easy it was going to be to work with them through out the day. Emily and her entire family were amazing to work with from the start. They treated us as guest and like family. Emily has two sisters that look identical to her. It was easy to tell they were related, but a good thing she was wearing the white dress.

The wedding was held in downtown Iowa City with the reception following at the Coralville Marriott. Before the ceremony we took care of formal photos and also headed to two other locations, Hotel Vetro and The Old Capitol. It was pretty cold. We shot as fast as we could and took photos as we were walking. When I couldn't feel my hands anymore I knew it was time to be done. If the photographer can't take photos then we are just out there freezing. Everyone in the wedding party was great about it. Even though it was cold they were up for it and understood that we were working quickly due to the weather. We were still able to get some fun shots.

At the reception, however, we were delayed by one Dan Gable. Not his fault. We were setting up for a large family photo and everyone is looking around for a couple of the guys. So an aunt ran to get them only to find they were in an attached restaurant talking to Dan Gable. The aunt couldn't get them to come back for the photo. So....who should be sent...well the bride of course. Needless to say they came back after that.

Congratulations to Emily, Zach, and their amazing families, Emily's dad has given away all three of his daughters to marriage in the last three years. Including 2 in six months. Photo #44 below shows the results of that. Thank you for letting us be a part of your big day!
