St. Patrick's Day Parade 2011

Ashley and I really enjoy attending the St. Patrick's Day parade every year. While I am not the most Irish person in the world my surname does originate from the Republic of Ireland. You can't beat the color, excitement, and all around rowdyness that the parade has. The boy's enjoy going as well and we never leave home without the camera. 2011 Fight for Air Climb

2011 Fight for Air Climb - We are thinking of gathering a team for this event. It is a stair climb through the EMC Insurance Building, Hub Tower, and Marriott Downtown. It is a fund raiser for the American Lung Association. Each team member will need to raise $100 plus a $25 registration fee. The event is Sunday March 27th. Sunset Across Iowa - An Iowan's Photo Project

I am working on a new project and I need Iowa's help. I am looking for 99 people to help take a photo of an Iowa sunset from each of Iowa's 99 counties. You don't have to be a professional photographer or even own a professional camera. A point and shoot camera will do just fine. You don't have to reside in the particular county you take the photo in, but each photo must be taken from each county at the exact same time most likely within a five minute range or so. The time and day are yet to be determined as they will be determined by when I can get the list together of all participants and then based on the specific day's official sunset time. It'd be great to incorporate some of Iowa's most famous landmarks in each of the photos.


The photos taken will not be used for any commercial purpose. Ideally I will be creating a large print that has each photo inside of each Iowa county. This would then be displayed around Iowa at different events and eventually sold for charity (charity TBD). All photographers will receive a photo credit as part of the artwork.

Earth Hour 2010

Steve and I will be taking part in the upcoming Earth Hour on Saturday night. Not only will we be personally taking part, but we've also been asked to capture the Iowa State Government's involvement on behalf of the World Wildlife Fund. They will be shutting off the lights to the State Capitol Building and dome. Check out the site and video below for how you can get involved in Earth Hour 2010. St. Patrick's Day Parade

This past Wednesday on St. Patrick's Day Ashley and I took out two boys out to the St. Patrick's Day Parade in downtown Des Moines. Of all the parades that pass through downtown this one is definitely one of the funnest. Most participants and viewers have a had a little to drink and everyone has a great time. We saw a little of everything...from a drunken Care Bear to a happy pirate to happy and unhappy clowns. And if there was something in the parade, there was at least one green version. Green dogs, green hats, green shoes, green beer, green beads, green tractors, green cars, and well you get the point. Below are a few of our favorites shots and all of the shots can be viewed here.

Chelsey Faye's Sunshine State of Mind

Last night Ashley and I shot photos at the Chelsey Faye event, Sunshine State of Mind.  The event was held at Kamodo Klub  in downtown Des Moines.  Chelsey's work is amazing.  We can't even start to put it in words.  You'll just have to see the photos for yourself.

Events like this can be really tough to shoot.  No light, tight space, and tons of people.  The key is arriving early, scouting locations, and taking tons of test shots before hand.  We got their early and scooped out the area.  Ashley found a spot near the end of the runway and I was positioned up on a staircase.  We took just under 2,000 photos, but after review cut it down to around a 800, best of the best.  Below are just a few of our favorites.  Great show, great night!

Sunshine State of Mind - Saturday, March 28th

This Saturday, March 28th, a friend of ours, Chelsey Faye, will be putting on a fashion show at Kamodo club in downtown Des Moines.  Doors open at 7pm, show starts at 9pm.  Proceeds from the show go to Animal Rescue League of Iowa.  Tickets are $5 in advance and $10 day of the show.

All outfits are hand made by Chelsey Faye.  The event will also feature a bikini contest and Chelsey Faye artwork.

Ashley and I will be out at the show.  If you are looking for something to do this will definitely be a great event.  Be sure to stop us and say hi if you make the show.

 

Center Stage Dance Invitational

Today Ashley, Brian, Kaylee, and myself spent the day in Oskaloosa, IA photographing the 2009 Center Stage Dance Invitational.  We were scheduled to photograph the event last year as well, mother nature did not cooperate and dumped 6 inches of snow in Des Moines and even more in Oskaloosa.  This year we had great weather and made the trip down.  We were quite impressed with the level of competition.  We took over 13,000 pictures.  Of all those we took we selected the 11 that stood out to us the most.  Below are our favorites.  Congratulations to all competitors.
