Lisa and Andy

I shot these engagement photos for Lisa and Andy back in June. It was a questionable weather day, but in the end it was perfect. The overcast skies gave soft even lighting. The clouds were quite textured and gave a great background. We started near the capitol and headed downtown after that. The shoot went great and we turned out some awesome shots. The shoot ended right as it started to rain. There was one weird moment where we were bombarded and asked for cigarettes. All part of being downtown.

Mallery and Ben

Last Saturday Levi Yamen and I photographed Mallery and Ben's Des Moines wedding. Mallery and Ben were married at a church on the Grand View University campus. I am a Grand View alum and in the five years I was there I never once made it into that church...but as you can see below it is a beautiful church. The sun moved around the building and once the ceremony started it created an amazing light inside the church. A lite up church is a rare surprise that we thoroughly enjoyed. We've had some great planning bride and groom's as of late, but these two may be at the top. We were done with formal photos before they were even suppose to start. Everything was way ahead of schedule and it left us quite a while to capture some photos in between ceremony and reception.

After Ben and Mallery made their getaway in the classic car we headed downtown to the sculpture garden for a few shots. Luckily the weather was fantastic and it was nice and sunny. Worked our way through some fun shots and had a good time. Mallery and Ben's reception was on the 40th floor of the Principal Building so we headed over to the building to get a few outside before we headed up to the reception. We were greeted by an awesome security guard telling us we couldn't take photos inside...which was fine because we wanted to take them outside anyway. All I wanted to do was put down both our backpacks and the four cameras I was carrying. We headed out side to fight off a vicious praying mantis, get a few shots and then head up the 40 floors to the reception. The view and reception area is best summed up in one word...wow. Des Moines is an amazing city and seeing it from there just reminds me of how much I love living here.

I can't put into words how great the dancing was, you have to see for yourself...Congratulations Mallery and Ben!
